Why this bundle

A complete pour-over setup using the actual equipment Japanese specialty cafés use, not the Amazon Basics version. Kalita 101-Roto ceramic dripper, Shimomura gooseneck kettle from Tsubame-Sanjō (Japan's metalwork capital), and a Kinto 600ml glass server.

Kalita's 3-hole flat-bottom design is the defining feature of Japanese-style pour-over: it slows the water down and forces a more even extraction than a Hario V60's single hole. The result is a cleaner, sweeter cup that's harder to mess up. Cafés in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka use Kalita for this reason.

The Shimomura kettle is the part most home setups skip. A gooseneck spout lets you pour a precise pencil-thin stream — without it, you're just dumping water and getting uneven extraction. 300ml is a single-cup size; refill once for a second pour. The Kinto server is microwave and dishwasher safe, with a flat spout that pours cleanly into a mug.

Who it's for

For drip-machine owners who've started caring how their coffee tastes, or French press users who want a cleaner cup. Also for new home-brewers who want one setup that won't need replacing as they get more serious. Not for espresso enthusiasts — different brewing method entirely.

Frequently asked

What filters does the Kalita 101-Roto use?
Kalita 101 wave filters — about $7 for 100 at most specialty coffee shops or online. The flat-bottom shape requires wave (fluted) filters, not standard cone filters. They are widely available.
How much coffee does this kit make at once?
The 101 size is single-cup (about 8oz / 240ml at typical strength). The 300ml kettle pours one cup with a small reserve. Brewing for two means refilling the kettle mid-brew or doing two rounds.
Is the kettle stovetop or electric?
Stovetop only — works on gas, electric, and induction. No electric heating element. The handle is stainless and gets hot; use a folded towel or oven mitt when pouring.
Can the glass server go on the stove?
No. The Kinto SCS is dishwasher and microwave safe but not flame-safe. It is a serving carafe, not a brewing vessel — the kettle heats water, the server holds the finished coffee.
What grind size should I use?
Medium, slightly finer than drip-machine grind. If you are grinding fresh, aim for a texture between table salt and coarse sea salt. Pre-ground filter-grind from a specialty roaster works fine.
