About this craft
Nambu-tetsu (Nambu iron) is a UNESCO-recognized traditional craft from Iwate Prefecture dating to the Edo period. Hand-cast wind chimes (fuurin) use centuries-old sand-mold casting and finishing techniques. Each piece develops unique patina, embodying the Japanese aesthetic of impermanence (mono no aware).
Description
Hand-cast Iwate iron wind chime with traditional fuurin tone
Hang in sheltered area to preserve patina. Iron will naturally rust; light surface oxidation is normal and adds character. Wipe dry after rain. Avoid harsh scrubbing. Can be lightly oiled to slow rust if preferred. Clapper produces gentle, meditative tone in breeze.
