Why this bundle

A complete bring-your-own-lunch kit built around a real Japanese magewappa cedar bento, not a plastic clamshell. Inside: a 700ml oval bento from Miyoshi (one of Akita's heritage workshops), a five-pair set of hand-carved wood chopsticks, and a 1-meter-square Kyoto furoshiki to wrap and carry it all.

The magewappa bento isn't microwave-safe and isn't supposed to be โ€” cedar absorbs excess moisture so cold rice tastes like cold rice instead of pasty plastic-locker rice. The chopsticks come in five colors so a family or shared office can each grab their own without mixing them up. The furoshiki replaces the disposable plastic bag entirely; it folds flat in a desk drawer when not in use.

Buying these three separately runs about $106. As a bundle it's $95.

Who it's for

For commuters bringing leftovers in, parents packing for school, or anyone who wants their lunchbox to look like the bento set from a Tokyo department-store window instead of a Tupperware stack. Works on day one; lasts a decade if you towel-dry the bento after each wash.

Frequently asked

Can the bento go in the microwave or dishwasher?
No. Cedar magewappa is hand-wash only โ€” warm water, mild soap, towel dry. Microwaving will crack the wood. This is part of how the bento works (the wood breathes), but it does mean a few extra seconds of care.
Will rice get cold in a wooden bento?
Yes, and that is intentional. Magewappa is designed for room-temperature rice โ€” which is how most Japanese bento is meant to be eaten. If you want hot meals, a thermal jar is a better tool.
How do I actually wrap a bento in furoshiki?
The standard otsukai tsutsumi knot takes 30 seconds: lay the cloth flat, place the bento center, tie opposite corners over the top in two knots. Plenty of YouTube tutorials. The 100x100cm size gives you slack to also carry a small water bottle.
Do the chopsticks come in a case?
They ship in a slim paper sleeve, not a hard case. If you are putting them in a bag every day, a separate chopstick holder is worth $5-10 elsewhere.
