- A vintage capitalWhole Tokyo neighbourhoods β Shimokitazawa, Koenji, Harajuku β are lined with vintage shops, and the flea markets and dealers behind them turn over stock every week.
- Kept with careJapanese collectors and dealers have curated vintage for decades. Pieces are cleaned, mended and graded honestly, so condition is often better than you find at home.
- The weak yenPrices are set in yen. With the yen weak against the dollar, many higher-end pieces cost less in Japan than the same piece back home.

It sounds backwards, but for decades Japanese buyers brought home the best American denim, workwear, military and varsity pieces β and looked after them. Many of those pieces are in better condition in Tokyo than anywhere else, and at today's exchange rate the higher-end ones are often the better deal.
