About this craft
Tokoname-yaki (常滑焼) is a pottery tradition from Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture, dating to the 12th century. Known for its distinctive reddish-brown and natural-green oxidized earthenware, Tokoname is one of Japan's six ancient pottery centers and remains a hub for kyusu (Japanese teapot) craftsmanship.
Description
Hand-thrown Tokoname pottery kyusu for green tea with stainless-steel strainer
Rinse and air-dry immediately after each use to prevent staining and maintain tea flavor. Do not use dishwasher; hand wash with soft sponge and warm water. Periodically steep with hot water and a pinch of baking soda to freshen interior. Tokoname clay may develop patina over time — this is natural and desirable.
