About this craft
Echizen (越前) lacquerware is a regional craft tradition from Fukui Prefecture in central Japan, documented since the 8th century. Artisans hand-finish wooden forms with layers of urushi (natural lacquer), a labor-intensive process. The eggplant shape references traditional vegetable-inspired tableware.
