About this craft
Kutani ware is one of Japan's three major porcelain traditions, originating in Kaga domain (modern-day Ishikawa). The aka-e (red-picture) technique uses overglaze enamels in bold reds and golds, distinctive to Kutani since the 17th century. Recognized as a designated traditional craft.
