About this craft
Magewappa is a centuries-old Akita craft: cedar strips are steamed, hand-bent into a curved box without nails or glue, then fitted with a wooden band. The wood's natural grain and gentle cedar scent are prized for food storage. Odate is Japan's magewappa heartland.

Hand wash immediately after use. Dry upright in open air. Do not soak. Avoid dishwasher. With use, natural wood may develop a patina; minor cracking is normal and does not affect function. Rehydrate occasionally by lightly misting with water.
