About this craft
Wakasa lacquer originates from Komatsu, Fukui Prefecture, an area famous for nurie-bashi (painted chopsticks) since the Edo period. Each pair is hand-finished with traditional lacquer techniques. Mino-ware ceramic rests are made in Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture, another Japanese pottery heritage site.

Hand wash gently; dry immediately after use. Do not soak or place in dishwasher (despite 'dishwasher safe' claim—hand washing preserves lacquer). Avoid extreme heat and prolonged water exposure. Store in a dry place. Lacquer will develop a beautiful patina with age and careful use.
