About this craft
Shigaraki-yaki is one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns (Rokko), with pottery production in Shiga Prefecture dating over 1,200 years. Designated a Traditional Craft by the Japanese government in 1976. The rough, porous earthenware and subtle glaze finishes are characteristic of this regional style, valued in both contemporary and traditional tea ceremony contexts.
Description
Hand-thrown Shigaraki-yaki vase with natsume pattern. Designated Traditional Craft.
Use as a display vase for fresh or dried flowers. Rinse gently before first use. To clean, hand wash with soft cloth and lukewarm water. Not food-safe. Shigaraki earthenware is porous; do not expose to direct water immersion for extended periods. Slight color and size variation between pieces is intentional and valued in hand-made pottery.
