Odate Magewappa (曲げわっぱ) is a 400-year-old craft from Odate, Akita. Master craftspeople steam-soften cedar strips and hand-bend them without nails or adhesive, creating water-tight boxes. Designated traditional craft (densan).
Description
Hand-bent Akita cedar bento box with two 360ml sections
Hand wash in lukewarm water, dry immediately. Do not soak or use harsh abrasives. Cedar aroma may transfer to food slightly (traditional). Store in dry place. Recondition with food-safe mineral oil annually to maintain wood suppleness.
