BUYING FROM JAPAN
How to buy Japan-only Uniqlo & GU from the US
Uniqlo and its sister brand GU are among the most-requested Japanese shops for proxy buying. Here is what is usually Japan-only, how sizing differs, and how to get it shipped to you.
What is usually Japan-only
- Japan-market collaborations and UT designs. Some graphic tees and collaboration lines are released in Japan first, or only in Japan, and sell out quickly.
- GU. Much of GU's range is sold only in Japan and parts of Asia, so it is hard to find in the US at all.
- Japan-sized basics and colors that the US store doesn't list, or lists in fewer sizes.
Sizing: check the size chart, not the letter
Japanese sizes often run about one size smaller than US sizes, and some items are cut differently. Compare the garment measurements (chest, length, sleeve) on the Japanese product page with a piece you already own, and tell us the size you want in your request. Clothing is light, so it usually ships by Japan Post's tracked economy service.
Why you can't just order it yourself
Uniqlo's and GU's Japanese online stores deliver to addresses in Japan only, and some items are store-only or limited per customer. A Japan-based buyer is the simplest way to get them.
