About this craft
Magewappa (曲げわっぱ) is a traditional Akita Prefecture woodcraft dating to the 18th century. Craftsmen hand-bend thin Akita cedar strips into vessels without nails or glue, using natural wood elasticity. Vapor-tight construction and aromatic cedar made magewappa iconic for sake, tea, and food storage.
Description
Handcrafted Akita cedar sake cup with maroon lacquer detail
Hand wash only; do not soak or place in dishwasher, as water will damage the wood and lacquer. Dry immediately after washing. Oil the wood surface occasionally (using food-safe oil) to maintain suppleness and prevent cracking. Store in a dry place away from direct heat.
