About this craft
Shigaraki-yaki (信楽焼) is one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns, documented since the 1400s in Shiga Prefecture. The characteristic porous, slightly rough earthenware is prized for natural breathability—salt jars, tea caddies, and flower vessels exploit this property without glazing.
Description
Shigaraki-ware salt jar with natural moisture control
Wipe interior with dry cloth before refilling. Do not submerge. Moisture absorption will naturally slow over time; refresh by air-drying for 24 hours. Food-safe but hand wash recommended.
