About this craft
Tokoname-yaki is a UNESCO-recognized pottery tradition from Aichi Prefecture dating back 1,100 years. The iron-rich local clay fires to a warm brown earthenware that naturally seasons with use, deepening flavor and color. Each pot is hand-formed by skilled artisans; individual variation is prized.

Hand-thrown Tokoname kyusu that seasons like cast iron, deepening with every brew
Rinse with hot water before first use. After brewing, empty leaves promptly and rinse interior gently. Air-dry upright. Do not use soap; let natural oils and tea tannins build a protective patina. Avoid thermal shock (cold water on hot pot). Over time, mineral deposits will accumulate inside — this is normal and improves flavor.
