About this craft
Tokoname-yaki is one of Japan's six great pottery traditions, based in Aichi Prefecture since the 8th century. Red earthenware (akatsuchi) is prized for water absorption and flavor development in tea. The porous body creates a natural seasoning layer over time, enhancing subsequent brews.
Description
Tokoname-yaki teapot in red clay; stainless strainer, 380ml capacity
Rinse with warm water after each use; allow to dry completely before storage. Do not use soap, which can coat and affect the earthenware's porous nature. Never place in dishwasher or microwave. Over time, the interior will develop a seasoning layer—this is desirable and improves flavor. Store in a dry location to prevent mold; if mold appears, rinse with water and air-dry in sunlight.
