About this craft
Tenugui is a traditional Japanese hand towel with roots in samurai culture and martial arts practice. Hand-dyed indigo (aizome) from Tokushima is a historic Japanese craft; the asymmetric 'half-wheel' design (hanawa) reflects natural dyeing and asymmetrical aesthetic.
Description
Hand-dyed Japanese tenugui in black with half-wheel design
Hand-wash or gentle machine wash in cool water. Air-dry flat or hung. Indigo hand-dye will gradually soften with wear and washingâthis is natural aging (yama). Do not bleach. Finished selvage edges allow use as kendo or martial arts towel; half-plain design makes it suitable as bandana or decorative wall hanging.
